The energy and the excitement at the campus made it obvious that the students of Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering (SVC) were hosting an inter-collegiate cultural fest for the first time.

The annual cultural and technical fest saw more than 40 colleges participating in it and had a combination of cultural as well as academic events.

“All these years, we had intra-college cultural competitions. This is the first year that we have conducted an inter- collegiate fest. However, some of the events were restricted for other colleges, so that there is nothing inappropriate on stage.

We had various cultural events like solo dance, group dance and Indian dance,” said Gopal, a final-year student of the college.

The fest also saw around six to seven bands competing in the battle of the bands.
City-based bands like ‘Dead Incarnation’, ‘Tiffin Box’, ‘Clown with a frown’ etc participated in the competition. ‘Hungry’, a metal band, headlined for the rock show.

Along with music, there were other events like ‘Mad Ads’.

The first place in this event was won by SVC while BMSIT won the second place. The final-year students, who organised the fest along with the others, were satisfied with the fact that they were able to handle and mange the show pretty well.

“The fest was a hit and we received a good feedback from other colleges as well. We have learnt a lot from this experience and hope that it continues in the coming years as well.

We always wanted our cultural fest to be extended to other colleges and I am glad that it happened before we graduated,” informed Vivek Nair, a final-year student.

The fest had a mix of sports as well and there were events like slow bike race and other sports but the highlight of the show was the ‘DJ Night’, where DJ Blaze set the mood of the party. The fashion show was restricted to participants from SVC.

“The participants of the fashion show were students from SVC. We have held such intra-college fashion shows earlier as well and no exception was made this year.

We made sure that students were dressed appropriately and the teams that broke the rules were disqualified,” added Nair.

It was a boon in disguise for the final-year students who were given the entire onus of organising the fest.

The students felt that it made them more responsible.

“We had a different experience this year. Organising the inter-college fest was a challenge and we started from scratch.

Right from inviting the colleges to handling the finances, it was done completely by the students,” explained Ankit, a final-year student of the college.
