When water is hard to trace even at the thousand feet down in the taluk, a small pond near Krishnavaram with water at just three feet is drawing attention from far and wide. But the sheer apathy of the authorities concerned in providing power facility to lift water has rendered this water body useless.

Contractor Vishwanath dug a pit near Phalasu Gangamma temple at Krishnavaram last
week, hoping to find water. Next day, the pit was filled with water.

Zilla Panchayat member Narayanamma who visited the place was surprised to see the water. “It is surprising to see water in this area. If the taluk administration is willing, it can collect water and supply it to the residents. The water is also potable,” she observed.

Krishnavaram, located on the outskirts of the town is the major patch to spot black bucks. Water table in the area seem to be satisfactory.

According to Vishwanath, a borewell sunk by the Zilla Panchayat eight years ago here, had water level at just four feet. But till today, the authorities concerned have not installed motor pump to draw water from here, he lamented.

Senior officials from the Water Board, deputy commissioner and district in-charge secretaries visited the place but did nothing to utilise the water source, he remarked.
