'Buddha was a complete human being'

Veereshananda Swamiji of Ramakrishna Mutt said Gautama Buddha, who established Buddhism which is followed by one fourth population in the world, was a ‘complete human being’. He was speaking at the 2556th Buddha Jayanti celebrations organised by Mahabodhi Maitri Mandala here on Thursday.

“Mahabodhi Founder Dharmapal was close to Ramakrishna Mission Founder Swami Vivekananda. There was an untold proximity between each other. Buddha’s personality was beyond the mortal life. Buddha led a life worth emulating, and stayed loyal to his preachings. His thoughts and way of life is stronger than the strongest and most potent of ammunition. Buddha was a Karmayogi,” said Swamiji.

Regretting that even with the progress that is achieved by science and technology, caste and superstition continue to thrive with humans sinking to depths by being after money, power and luxury, life is turning out to be meaningless. The Chinese are destroying culture and civilisation of Tibet and its people. Tibetans are not able to withstand this assault any more. It is time China stopped its atrocities,” he added.

MLA V Srinivas Prasad, who spoke on the occasion, said culture has turned stagnant about five thousand years ago. Post Buddha’s period, the era turned into a creative one and reached a  dynamic state. Buddha was the first one to build a casteless society.

Hence, Buddha Dharma emerged as the noblest one in the world. Buddha has compassion for people. However, its a tragedy that caste system still exists in the country where Buddha was born,” he added.

On the same occasion, he unveiled the name plate of ‘Mahabodhi Maarga’ thus renaming the name of Swimming pool road in Saraswatipuram. Ananda Bhanteji of Mahabodhi Society, Sangharakkhita Bhanteji of Mahabodhi Maitri Mandala, Director of Dr B R Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre Dr J Somashekhar, former mayor Purushottam, corporator R Lingappa and others were present on the occasion.
