MLA upsets Speaker

Last Updated 11 September 2009, 18:17 IST

The members were in a hurry to get their turn to speak. In fact, S R Mahesh, JD(S) MLA, rushed to the well of the House when he did not get an opportunity to speak. He addressed the Chair in a raised voice but was later pacified by other members.

Reacting to his outburst, Shettar said he was pained by the behaviour of the member.
Mahesh also said that he was waiting for the last one-and-a-half-years to speak on the floor of the House. Only senior members were getting opportunity, he rued. Shettar had put a capping of 10 minutes on each member to speak. But as a matter of rule, almost all the members violated it.

Majority of the members ended up finding fault with the present system rather than giving suggestions to the CM. With the members speaking at length, the CM decided to reply to the debate on Monday instead of Friday.
The CM also announced that he was ready to conduct the legislature session for 60 days in a year. Already the Houses have met for 35 days in the current year, he pointed out.
