Looks like the direction bug has bitten Chiranjeevi Sarja as he is all set to assist none other than Kicha Sudeep in a short film. After doing films like Vayuputra, Gandedhe, Chiru and Dandam Dashagunam, Chiru, as he is fondly called in the industry, shot for Vardhanayaka with Sudeep recently.

Once the shoot was wrapped up, the two friends took a long break and then decided to team up to direct this venture. “I was always interested in knowing more about the way things work behind the camera and that’s when Sudeep came up with this idea of making a short film and roped me in to assist him. Since both of us don’t have any commitments for the time being, I thought why not make use of the free time,” Chiru tells Metrolife.

So has this new role ignited the spark of a director in him? “Definitely. But I still have a long way to go as there is so much to learn. I am thrilled about this venture as this is going to be a great learning experience for me. At first I am going to just watch and learn and then maybe someday in future when I am confident enough, I will think about direction,” he states.

As for the short film, Chiru says he cannot reveal much except that it’s going to be something different. “It’s going to revolve around a normal guy, his life and influences,” he adds. Ask him if he would be starring in it as well and he laughs, “Since I am an actor, I actually thought Sudeep would cast me in the film but I was wrong. So far I haven’t faced the camera in this film. Anyway for this particular project, I would prefer to be just behind the camera.” As for the future, Chiru says he hasn’t really signed on anything post Shankare Gowda’s Varadanayaka. “I’m just taking some time off and working on this short film. I am looking at a few scripts but I will take a decision gradually,” he signs off.
