Lack of space cause for concern in Sringeri

Last Updated 12 May 2012, 18:39 IST

Sringeri is one of the pilgrimage centre thronged by devotees from across the country.

The KSRTC have been dithering over the construction of a bus depot at Sringeri for the last one decade. Owing to lack of space, the project is still in its initial phase of identifying the land.

The authorities had identified five acre forest land in Masige village survey number 416 for the construction of KSRTC depot. In fact, the authorities had handed over five acre land in Hallikere kaval to the forest department, in exchange of land in Masige. Unfortunately, the forest department is yet to hand over five acre land in Masige to the KSRTC.

The forest department officials who visited the spot recently had categorically declined to hand over the land to the KSRTC for the construction of depot.

Owing to the non-availability of revenue land, the sanctioned FM station, APMC building and ST hostel were suspended in the taluk. Owing to the non co-operation of the forest department, the identified land to be distributed among the poor remained unutilised in the taluk.

Zilla Panchayat member Shivashankar said “we have Rs 50 lakh to provide a platform for the women SHGs to sell their produce, Rs 45 lakh to construct stadium, Rs 50 lakh to construct Ambedkar Bhavan. However, lack of space is coming in the way of taking up development work.”
