Stand-in skipper Virat Kohli praised Mayank Agarwal for his innings against the Mumbai Indians here at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Monday night.

Mayank scored an unbeaten 64 runs off 30 balls with six fours and four sixes to help RCB to a competitive 171 for six in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians managed to scale the target with two balls left but that did not stop Kohli from praising the Bangalorean.

“Every time he has come out to play, he has played brilliantly and today was a special day for him. Hopefully, he can continue this way,” said Kohli.

RCB’s bowlers put on a dismal show as they gave away too many loose balls. “It is very important to back your bowlers. Give them confidence. (KP) Appanna bowled really well in the last game. But in Twenty20 anyone can go for runs. But Appi went for 20 runs in an over and as a captain it is difficult to make up for a regular bowler with a part-timer.”

Pollard said he and Rayudu decided to play out Muttiah Muralitharan. “At the end of the day, we knew we had to chase (it down). Rayudu and myself decided that if we can bat a couple of overs and see out Murali, we could do it.”
