Police commissioner Shankar Bidari told reporters here that the accused Zabbina (19) and Khasif Sharif (23) had decamped with gold and diamond jewellery and Rs 2.78 lakh in cash from the residence of a lodge owner on September 9.
He said Zabbina had worked as a maidservant in the house for one and half years and had quit six months ago.
Zabbina on the pretext of meeting her former employer went to their house on September 5 and spoke to family members. She picked up the key to the room where the valuables were kept and later gave it to Khasif who had a duplicate made. Zabbina then kept the original key back in place.
Following her conversation with the family, she learnt they would be going out the next day. The duo waited for the family to leave and used the duplicate key to rob the jewels and cash. Investigation finally led to their arrest on September 10.
