Guv orders probe into outreach programmes fiasco

Governor H R Bhardwaj, who is the Chancellor of Universities, has ordered a probe into outreach programmes launched by the Gulbarga University in violation of statutes governing them.

Communicating this to Justice M Rama Jois, Rajya Sabha member, the governor said: “An inquiry has been ordered against the Gulbarga varsity under Section 8 (1) of the Karnataka State Universities Act 2000.” The draft of statutes submitted by the university seeking approval of outreach programmes has been rejected, clarified Bhardwaj.

Justice Rama Jois, former governor of Jharkhand and Bihar, had written to Bhardwaj saying that Gulbarga University entering into a MoU with Y Gen Management Consulting Private Limited and according recognition to a number of partnership institutes across the country was illegal.

In the light of events, Syndicate member Raghavendra Kulkarni has demanded that  Vice Chancellor E T Puttaiah and Registrar S L Hiremath resign from their posts owning moral responsibility.
