<p>Progressive farmer K Javaregowda said by fixing scientific price for crops, the government should come forward to protect farmers, who are in dire straits due to crash in price for their produce.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Participating in a felicitation ceremony and 17th anniversary memorial discourse programme, organised by Ragi Lakshmanaiah Smaraka Samiti at Gandhi Bhavan in Mandya on Tuesday, he shared his experience with the participants.<br /><br />Felicitation<br /><br />He was felicitated for reaping maximum yield of ragi in one hectare of land. <br />Speaking on the occasion, he said farmer, who is considered as the backbone of the country, is being discriminated against. <br /><br />The expenses incurred on agriculture is more than the profits, which gradually demoralises farmer. This is a bad sign and the government should concentrate on the welfare of farmers. <br /><br />He said: “By adopting scientific methods, I was able to reap good yield of ragi. Farmers should concentrate on cultivating with minimum expenses that would help them to lead a peaceful life.”<br /><br />K K Avadhani student awardee Rani A T, progressive farmers M A Fazil Pasha and N Chandru were also honoured on the occasion.<br /><br />Model for others<br /><br />Chamundeshwari Sugars managing director Parthasarathy said the achievement of these farmers should become a model for other farmers.<br /><br />Horticulture department in-charge director Dr D L Maheshwar explained about various benefits provided by the department to farmers. Samiti president K Boraiah presided over the function.<br /></p>
