Cong protest in Indore on wheat procurement

Last Updated 16 May 2012, 20:07 IST

Terming the state BJP government as anti-farmer, hundreds of Congressmen on Wednesday protested outside the collectorate here demanding wheat procurement at minimum support price from farmers in Madhya Pradesh, party sources said.

Addressing the protesters, district Congress president Pramod Tandon alleged the wheat procurement, which began in the state on April 15, could not last since chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan delayed the process of procurement by raising false demand of bags before the Centre earlier this month.

“In the last three years of BJP government in the state 3,936 farmers committed suicide”, Tandon alleged, adding that recently a farmer in Raisen’s Bareli town allegedly fell victim to police bullet.

The BJP government had miserably failed to provide even uninterrupted power supply to farmers for agricultural purposes, he said, adding that the power supply was just four hours a day, and even that was erratic.
