Woman, son found hanging

A woman and her three-year-old son were found hanging at their house in HAL police limits on Monday night. The dead have been identified as Geetha (28) and her son Mithran. Geetha was married to Sathyavelu in 2003. The couple, natives of Tamil Nadu, had come to Bangalore after their marriage.

The couple had a son and a daughter, Mithran (3) and Deepika (5). Sathyavelu’s brother Ganesh too was staying with the family, the police said. Geetha and Sathyavelu fought over petty issues and the quarrel had intensified in the past few days, the police said.
On May 15, both Sathyavelu and Ganesh left home for work around 10:30 am. Deepika was playing outside the house with her friends.

The police suspect that Geetha might have hanged her son and then killed herself.
Ganesh, who returned home in the afternoon, carrying an LPG cylinder, grew suspicious when there was no response to his knocks on the door. He broke open the door only to find Geetha and Mithran hanging.

Newly-married hangs self

A newly-married woman committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Subramanyapura, Doddakallasandra, on Tuesday. The dead, identified as Nandini (19), was married to Venkatesh (24). The couple, natives of Rampur in Kollegal taluk, Chamarajanagar district, were staying at a rented house at Doddakallasandra on Kanakapura Main Road.

Venkatesh, a carpenter by profession, was married to Manjula when he fell in love with Nandini. Nandini was training to be a nurse at that time.Barely, two months ago, the two got secretly married and fled to Bangalore.Venkatesh, however, started pestering Nandini to bring dowry. As a result, she began to frequent her home in Rampur.

On Tuesday too he is alleged to have harassed her to get dowry. After that, he went out of the house to have a cup of coffee. When he returned home, he saw his wife hanging.
He immediately rushed her to the hospital where she was declared brought dead, the police said.

Venkatesh later took the body to Rampur, where the victim’s parents refused to take the body. Venkatesh, hence, brought the body back to Victoria Hospital in Bangalore, the police said.

Naga, Nandini’s father, has registered a complaint of dowry harassment against Venkatesh. Based on the complaint, the police have arrested Venkatesh.

Pedestrian killed

A pedestrian was killed on the spot when he was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle early Thursday morning in Byatarayanapura.  The dead, identified as Hafeez (33), was a resident of Valmikinagar and worked as a scrap dealer. When he was returning home, an unidentified vehicle knocked him down killing him on the spot, the police said.

Eight arrested

The Central Crime Branch sleuths on Wednesday arrested eight men  in separate raids and recovered documents and electronic gadgets, all valued at Rs four lakh.

The police arrested Karthik (23) and Ranga (25), both residents of Garvebhavipalya and recovered documents related to land ownership and several blank cheques.

On a tip-off, the police raided a house on 9th Main of Hosur Road and arrested the two.

Karthik and Ranga lent money at exorbitant rates of interest and harassed clients when they failed to pay the interest amount on time, the police said.

In another incident, the CCB sleuths arrested Narendra Babu (45), a resident of Cottonpet, and recovered Rs 3.20 lakh, a laptop, a television set and five cell- phones.

The police raided the house where Babu and another person identified as Mithun were allegedly betting on an IPL T20 cricket match. However, Mithun managed to escape.
In a separate incident, the police raided Nandini Hotel on Intermediate Ring Road and arrested five persons for running a brothel.

The arrested are Govindalal Jaswal (48) of Mumbai, Bhaskar (31) of Srinagar in Bangalore, Mahangi Prasad (43) of Uttar Pradesh, Sonali Shethi (23) of Mumbai and Kajal (25) of Bihar. The police recovered Rs 10,000 and five cellphones from the arrested.
