An advocate has been arrested on the charge of colluding with a thief in a house burglary.

Varunashree, 30, an advocate from Chennai, had allegedly helped Manjunath alias Duck Manja, 30, of Chikkabanavar to get bail and roped him in committing burglary at her relative’s house.

The police arrested Varunashree, Manja and their associate S Ramakrishnachari, 31, of Kamalanagar and Ravi, 32, of Basaveshwaranagar. They also recovered 1.5 kg gold ornaments, 20.80 kg silver ornaments, electronic goods and a four-wheeler.

Booked

Manja, who took to crime since 1994, was booked in 37 cases of thefts and robberies in Tilaknagar, Siddapur, Basavanagudi, Seshadripuram, Adugodi, City Market, Baiyappanahalli, Banaswadi and Ramamurthynagar.

He was convicted in one of the cases and served a seven-year jail term. While in prison, he befriended Ramakrishnachari, who was serving sentence in a dowry case.

After his release, Manja came in contact with Varunashree, who helped him secure bail in other cases. Varunashree, in return, asked him to burgle the residence of her relative, Tejaswini at Hanumanthnagar, with whom she had a dispute.

Tejaswini and her family members had gone abroad when Manja and Ravi burgled the house and handed over the stolen articles to Varunashree.  However, the crime came to light when the police arrested the two in a theft case.
