Joshna, Alankamony in Chennai Open Squash semifinals

India's seasoned Joshna Chinappa exhibited tremendous skills in wearing down higher-ranked Carrie Ramsy of England in straight games to join her compatriot Anaka Alankamony in the semifinals of the Chennai Open Squash Championship here today.

Unseeded Alankamony will play the first semifinal against third seed Sarah Jane Perry of England  while Second seed Chinappa takes on Salma Hany of Egypt in the second semifinal tomorrow.

Joshna winning her match in straight games 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 against England's Carrie Ramsy was the highlight of today's matches. She displayed superior play with variety of shots and came up with winners with superb shot selections.

Joshna displayed quality and class in her game today against Carrie Ramsy, who was fighting hard in the initial stages of all three games and maintained in returning the balls during rallies.  However, Joshna showed her experience in finishing the rallies to her advantage on all occasions.

Earlier, Alanamony, a talented and promising school girl beat top seed Siti Munirah (Mal), who is ranked 40 in the world, 4–11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 11-4 in 63 minutes.

In the other two matches, Sarah Jane Perry (Eng) came from behind to beat Victoria Bell (Eng) 8-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-4 while Egyptian Salma Hany managed to get the better of Pushppa Devi (Mas) 7-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-8.
