The Bangalore University Task Force for BEd colleges aims to issue notices to university-affiliated BEd colleges about their poor infrastructure.

It will initiate action against them if no improvement is seen within three months after the notification.

Despite an already existing Academic Audit Committee, the university has not been able to plug the loopholes leading to the poor state of affairs of the affiliated BEd colleges. The university local inquiry committee reports point out to various teacher education colleges functioning with abysmal infrastructure.

A few days ago, the BEd college lecturers boycotted evaluation of answer scripts of these colleges (for the semester exam held early this month) protesting against the apathy of the university in dealing with these colleges.

Following this, the Vice-Chancellor constituted the Task Force on May 21, which has been authorised to do a reality check about the status of colleges with poor infrastructure through surprise inspections and recommend measures to plug loopholes.

BU Academic Council member Karan Kumar has been appointed as the chairman of the Task Force, effective till June 30, 2013. Prof Keerthi Narayan Swamy, Department of Education reader Haseen Taj, retired professor of Teachers’ College Nagarajaiah and assistant finance officer Rajasekhara Murthy will be the members.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Karna Kumar said the first task the members would engage themselves in, is to ensure that only students from colleges meeting the standards prescribed for affiliation would appear for the next semester exams.
