6 kids rescued from 'bindi' making units

Six children were rescued from bindi making units from New Usmanpur in north east district, Delhi on Friday.

A raid was conducted by the special task force along with the sub-divisional magistrate, labour department officials, Delhi Police and activists from Bachpan Bachao Abdolan (BBA).

Children in the age group of 9 to 12 years were trafficked from Bihar on the pretext of good education.

They were forced to work for 13 to 14 hours a day without wages.

Of these, two children were suffering from chicken pox and were not given any medical aid.

“The children have been produced before of the child welfare committee and we have taken them to Mukti Ashram (BBA’s shelter for children),” said Rakesh Senger, member BBA.

The employer has escaped, but we have sealed the factory. A notice has been given to the employer to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 by Saturday, he added.

Radha Charan, SDM of the area said a case will be registered under the Child Labour Act 1986, Bonded Labour Act 1976, Juvenile Justice Act 2000 and Indian Penal Code.
