Instead, you can generate all the details with the click of a button, thanks to the Bangalore Telecom Circle, at last, migrating to a Call Details Record (CDR) system.<br /><br />It will also enable the subscriber to pay his bills in any of the customer care centres in south India. The system may be extended across India in the coming months.<br /><br />The subscriber can pay the phone bill 24x7 by just registering himself with www.selfcare.sdc.bsnl.co.in. The CDR would enable the broadband connection users with limited downloading package to view their usage regularly.<br /><br />BSNL sources said the subscriber can monitor the calls made from his landline virtually on a real time basis. Sometimes there could be a delay of half an hour for the server, located in Hyderabad, to update.<br /><br />Interestingly, Bangalore, hailed as Silicon Valley of India, is the last of the 334 secondary switching areas (SSAs) of the BSNL (which is almost like a revenue district in general administration) to migrate to the CDR system. The project began in Hyderabad, which is also the IT hub for the South India, couple of years ago.<br /><br />The system went live in Bangalore on April 23. Because of this, many subscribers have not received their monthly telephone bills so far. “Now, we have started generating bills and subscribers will receive them in due course of time,” the sources said. The sources said the BSNL, like a few private operators in the sector, has been offering packages to corporate sector.<br /><br />Asked for the delay in implementation of the project, the sources said they had to rework the packages to suit corporate clients. Several local conditions, manpower availability and other factors had to be looked into. “Also, being a government concern, we needed to get approvals and the necessary software had to be developed at IT Project Circle office located in Pune.” Bangalore Circle has nearly 7.5 lakh fixed lines and nearly 950 corporate clients.<br /><br />This account-based system has replaced existing individual-bill based accounting system.<br /><br />“There will be no free calls. The free call equivalent will be offered as discount in the bill in accordance with the plan opted by the subscriber,” the sources said.
