Two MBA students died on the spot after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a road divider in Lajpat Nagar area of south east Delhi, police said on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Yuem Herojit, 24, a native of Manipur, and Abhishek, 22, of Uttar Pradesh. They were second year students of Gayatri International Institute of Planning and Management at Noida Sector 62.

“We had received a call at around 9.30 pm on Saturday reporting that an accident had taken place on Mahatma Gandhi Road near Nehru Nagar. When our team reached at the spot, two men were lying in a pool of blood,” a police official said.

The accident happened close to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), but the impact of the crash was such that the victims died before they could get medical help.

The official further said prima facie it appears that the leg guard of the motorcycle brushed against the road divider and Yuem, who was driving the motorcycle, lost control.“Due to the speed, the duo flung into the air four to five feet high. The motorcycle was found around 15 to 20 feet away from the accident spot,” the official said.

Initial probe has revealed that Yuem and Abhishek had visited one of their friends in Delhi, and were returning to their hostel inside their college’s campus when they met with the accident.

Police have so far refused to confirm that they were under the influence of alcohol. “That can’t be said until we receive their medical report," the official added.

Yuem and Abhishek’s family members have arrived in the capital after police informed them about the accident.

Their bodies will be handed over after post-mortem on Monday.
