Police return valuables worth ` 30 lakh to owners in Hassan

Property parade: 71 cases registered in four months

Police handed over Rs 30.69 lakh worth valuables to its owners recovered while solving cases registered between January and April at a property parade here on Tuesday.

Superintendent of police Amit Singh disclosed that the department had registered 71 cases between January and April. Police were successful in arresting 105 persons and recovering Rs 68.69 lakh from the miscreants. 

As several cases are pending in court, they were able to return valuables belonging to only 17 persons, who had been cleared by the court. Singh revealed that the court had sentenced 25 persons to prison holding them guilty for crimes.

Valuables returned

Giving the details of valuables returned in various taluks, Singh said Rs 2.26 lakh was returned to owners in Hassan city limits, Rs one lakh in Hassan rural limits, Rs 1.25 lakh in Holenarsipur, Rs 13 lakh in Channarayapatna, Rs 1.12 lakh in Sakleshpur and Rs 12.04 lakh in Arsikere rural limits.

The majority of the cases involved chain snatching with the maximum cases being reported from Hassan layout station limits.
