Taking a serious note of the recent clashes within the conglomerate over the relevance of United Nations (UN) resolutions on Kashmir, moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference on Thursday suspended three senior leaders and served them with show cause notices.

The notices were issued to senior leaders Abdul Gani Bhat, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and Azam Inqalabi, after the Hurriyat executive meeting here, a spokesperson of the conglomerate said.

“It is imperative for the individuals to respect constitution of Hurriyat and views regarding the freedom struggle. Hurriyat Chairman (Mirwaiz Umar Farooq) made it clear that the conglomerate’s constitution and system is above individual opinions and nobody will be allowed to violate or trespass it,” the spokesperson said.

The three leaders have been asked to explain their position over the recent acts of “indiscipline” within 10 days and have been suspended from the amalgam till disciplinary proceedings are in progress.

“The Hurriyat chairman has stressed all the members to strictly keep their suggestions or issues within the forum and advised them to refrain from doing any such act which would create misunderstanding among the pro-freedom parties and people of Jammu and Kashmir at large,” the spokesperson added.

Suggestions

Sources said another senior Hurriyat leader Shabir Ahmad Shah has been asked to refrain from giving his suggestion on issues pertaining to the conglomerate to the media.
Divisions within the moderate Hurriyat had become visible after Bhat, at a rally in north Kashmir earlier this month, said the UN plebiscite resolutions were no longer “practically implementable” in Jammu and Kashmir.

Shah, Khan and Inqillabi had questioned Bhat’s statement and sought action against him. The issue had led to clashes at the Hurriyat headquarters earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Shah described the Hurriyat’s decision as arbitrary. A vernacular news agency, quoting Shah, said the decision of the Hurriyat was not fair as according to him the “blunder” of Bhat cannot be equated with mistakes of other party leaders.
