Supreme Court Advocate Brijesh Kalappa on Saturday mooted State Water Grid on the lines of National Power Grid to address the raging drinking water woes in the nation.

He was interacting with media at the programme organised by Mysore District Journalists Association (MDJA) here on Saturday.

Brijesh who is also one among the three member panel of advocates representing Karnataka State in Cauvery river water disputes issue said according to the article 21 of the Indian Constitution, water is the fundamental right of every citizen.

Denying the same, amounts to violation of the said right. He cited the examples of Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet, where cry for water erupts during every summer.
Replying to a query, he said, water grid is still possible as no government agencies will interfere considering the requirement of the day.

Also having spent nearly 10 years in Mysore during his student days, Brijesh stressed on promoting Nada Habba Dasara as a national festival. He drew an analogy between Dasara and Mardi Gras festival celebrated in Rio-di-Janeiro in Brazil.

Though Mardi Gras festival is celebrated in other nations, the uniqueness of Brazilian city makes it more attractive and also worth to take part of.

With Mysore emerging as potential tourist hub, it’s high time the authorities concerned make some plans towards taking the festival to the national arena.

On improving connectivity between the cities- including Mysore, he was pained to say that Mandakalli Airport remains non-operational again. Turning towards Bangalore, he said it’s better we have a second airport located between Ramanagar and Bidadi, after Bangalore International Airport (BIA).

Not to forget, Brijesh dabbled in the field of journalism for a while as a reporter, before switching over to legal fraternity.

He also has a pride in assisting none other than doyen in the realm Fali S Nariman.
He is also additional advocate general of Haryana State.
