Aspirants braved summer heat to visit Delhi University (DU) campus on Monday to buy the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) forms on the first day of the varsity’s admission season, despite arrangements to fill in the forms online.

Outstation students in particular chose a personal visit to the campus, wishing to revel in its fabled beauty.

“I have heard so much about DU and wanted to see it myself. There are help desks here to clarify things and avoid mistakes while filling in the forms. Also I heard from a couple of my friends that there are some technical glitches in filling online forms. Now, they are asking me to buy the forms for them,” said Vidushi Sharma from Agra who is being accompanied buy her mother.

Students visited the individual colleges to buy the forms despite sales of the forms taking place through designated centres such as post offices and banks. “I get a sense of satisfaction by filling in the form bought straight from the counter. This way I at least have a chance to correct mistakes.
Online form is centralised and once I make a mistake, I have no chance of correcting it. Besides, I wouldn’t mind a visit here,” said Aarti Shankar, a resident of Gurgaon.

A large number of reserved category students were also seen buying forms. “Since there is a slight difference in the admission rules for reserved category students, we don't want to take a risk. Also many falling under this category are not computer-friendly,” said Ravi Kumar.

The designated post offices where offline forms were available also saw large crowds. “We are witnessing a large crowd since morning. In fact, within a couple of hours of starting the sale of forms, most of them were sold. Over 2000 in the first half were sold,” said an official from Gol Daak Khana (post office).
