Migrant children admitted to schools

The department of public instruction, social welfare department and Zilla Panchayat officials started a drive, at Balaipade in Udyavara on Tuesday to admit the migrant children to schools.

Zilla Panchayat CEO S A Prabhakar Sharma, DDPI S Nagendra Madhyasta, Social Welfare department Joint Director Shivalinge Gowda, Backward classes and minority department’s Sheshappa and others visited the migrant labourers and collected details on the children.

With the permission of the parents, seven children were admitted to schools and hostels.

Speaking to presspersons, Sharma said “seven children are admitted to the schools. The officials will work together to bring all the children into the portal of school in the district. We will ensure that no child is dropped from the school.” He said “there are several hostels in the district. There is a need to create awareness on education and health among the migrant labourers. We will convene a meeting of migrant labourers soon. ”

“We will not force anyone. They should come voluntarily by realising the value of education. Although Right to Education Act provides free and compulsory education, we don’t want to force them as they will not agree to stay in the hostels. It they do not stay in hostels, it is for sure they will drop out of school,” he said.

DDPI Nagendra Madhyastha said “we have another programme under which we have a provision to admit as many as 80 students to residential schools.  At present there are two such schools in the district. The schools were renovated at an estimated cost of Rs 6 lakh. All efforts will be made to admit children to schools. ‘Shaalegagi naavu-neevu’ programme will be held in all the schools in the month of July.”

Chandru, a labourer from Davangere voluntarily sent all his four children to school.
The children who were admitted to schools are Meenakshi, Prithvi, Udaya (second standard), Ganesha (third standard), Ganga, Kalamma and Hanumantha (first standard). The children were admitted to Vivekananda government school in Ajjarkadu and T A Pai Modern School.

They are admitted to Ashram School Hostel at Bannanje.
