Amateur Astronomers’ Association of Mangalore has made arrangement to view Venus transit, a rare celestial event of the century wherein a venus will pass in front of the Sun, at St Agnes Institutions in Bendore on Wednesday.
Addressing a press meet, H Jayanth of the Association said that it is a rare event which occurs once in 120 years. Though similar celestial event had occurred in 2005, Mangaloreans could not view due to bad weather.
It will be visible in Mangalore from sunrise to 10.19 am. As per the calculation, next such event would take place after 117 years, he said.
As part of the arrangement, he said there will be a video presentation.
Jayanth said watching the event using sunglasses or x-ray sheets would not help.
Since Venus in transit will form only a small spot on the sun, it will not be visible to the bare eye.
