MBA student held for stealing purses

The desire to lead life in the fast track led an MBA student to a part-time career in picking pockets and robbery, resulting in her eventual arrest by the police.

Banaswadi police have taken into custody G V Varunasri, 24, a resident of OMBR Layout in the City, and a student in a reputed college.

Varunasri, also known as Smithasri, developed a liking for life on the fast track and acquired many boyfriends. The girl, who hails from a lower middle class family, resorted to crime to sustain her expensive tastes.

Varunasri would board crowded BMTC buses in Majestic, K R Market, Shivajinagar and other areas and steal purses of woman commuters. She was never caught in the act, but on the description one of her victims gave, police finally nabbed her. 

Varunasri would spend the money at star hotels, pubs and on parties with her boyfriends. She told the police that she used to give part of the money to her family, claiming that she had earned it. She has also confessed to burgling at least two houses in Banasawadi, according to police.

Police claim to have recovered 273 gram of gold ornaments and about Rs 10,000 in cash.  Varunasri is a native of Tamil Nadu. Her mother Hemalatha divorced her husband Venkata Raghava Krishna 15 years ago and has since settled in Bangalore with her two children, one of them Varunasri.

Hemalatha works as a housemaid. Her son Avinash is preparing for his SSLC supplementary exams. Varunasri had written the exams of her third semester.

Chain snatcher arrested

People caught a chain snatcher after chasing him and handed him over to the police at Malleswaram on Wednesday.

He had snatched a gold chain from Vimala, an assistant director at the Karnataka Secondary Education & Examination Board. She had just left her office on Malleswaram 6th cross at about 7:40 pm and was walking towards her vehicle parked on the other side of the road when Sajjan, 27, snatched her gold chain. Malleshwaram being a very busy area, people around chased and caught him.

They thrashed him andhanded him over to the Malleswaram Police.
