Pollution: PCB officials visit Yellur

Following the complaint filed by the residents that wells have been polluted due to the Udupi Power Corporation Ltd, to Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju, Pollution Control Board official visited Yellur on Friday.

The official Rajashekar Puranik visited the houses of Karia Shetty, Jayanth Kumar, Vimala Mugerthi of Ullur and took away the samples of water from the wells for testing.  
Speaking on the occasion, Puranik said: “We have noticed polluted water at few places. The samples will be sent to the laboratory. At the same time, there is mineral content in water at Ullur and Ullurguthu.”

Yellur Gram Panchayat president Jayanth Kumar said the colour of the well water has changed in the last two days. “One gets itching after taking bath in the water,” he said.
In the meantime, two cattle in the region have died after grazing, the reason for which is yet to be ascertained.
