Two people, including a 70-year-old man, have been arrested in separate cases of drug peddling in central Delhi, police said on Sunday.

Cops have also seized over 1.8 kilograms of ganja and smack worth Rs 54,000 in total from the possession of Lal Mohammad and Shekhar, 35.

Lal was held on Saturday by a police team on patrolling duty near Maharaja Ranjit Singh Marg.

Tip-off

“We had received a tip-off that a person coming from Gandhi Market side and going towards LNJP Colony might be in possession of ganja,” said Devesh Chandra Srivastva, additional commissioner of police (central).

A trap was laid and at about 5.10 pm, Lal was apprehended. “He was carrying a polythene bag in which 1.8 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 18,000 was recovered,” Srivastva added.

On sustained interrogation, Lal disclosed that he was a active drug peddler for the past four years.  He procured ganja from a man named Chander from near New Delhi Railway Station.

In the second incident, Shekhar, a vagabond, was apprehended with 36 grams of smack worth Rs 36,000 from near New Delhi Railway Station.

Revelation

“Shekhar disclosed that he used to sell smack in small quantities to drug addicts in and around Hanuman Mandir at Connaught Place,” Srivastva said.

He said he used children to supply drugs to different places to avoid being caught by police.

Separate cases have been lodged against Lal and Shekhar under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at IP Estate and Paharganj police stations.
