The victory celebrations by BJP started much before the result announcement of the South West Graduates and Teachers’ constituency polls held for Legislative Council on Wednesday.

Besides shouting slogans cheering the victory across the streets, the BJP activists also burst crackers to celebrate the victory.

Sweets were distributed and jubilant party workers shouted slogans cheering up BJP leaders by holding party flags to commemorate the triumph.

BJP leaders including District President Uday Kumar Shetty, M Somashekhar Bhat, CMC President Kiran Kumar, Bharathi Chandrasekhar, Vilas Nayak and Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde were all present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, District President Uday Kumar Shetty said victory signifies the popularity of BJP government and this will boost the party performance in next general elections. He said party has won Graduates constituency continuously for five times and Teachers constituency for four times.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, MLA Raghupathy Bhat said BJP winning both the seats shows that BJP is been successful in winning the support of the educated class. “We always had the support of teachers and it is proved once again. I would like to thank all voters for supporting BJP and also making it more powerful,” he added.

JD(S) District President Deviprasad Shetty said it is unfortunate that people with brain went on to support corruption. “We expected that educated voters will never support BJP as it has become a hub of corruption and scandals. Unfortunately, our expectations went wrong,” he lamented.

Congress District President Gopal Poojary told Deccan Herald that Congress failed to attract the traditional voters who always supported BJP in these constituencies.

However, we tried our best and we will continue to try our best in future. We had fielded able candidates, but somehow voters were inclined towards BJP since 25 years.

We hoped to win, but our work did not yield positive results in some angles. We will analyse the facts that led to the defeat of the party and set right it next time, he added.
