Complaint against Roshan Baig

A complaint was filed in the Special Lokayukta Court on Thursday against Congress MLA Roshan Baig alleging that he had acquired wealth disproportionate to known sources of income and making false statements to the Lokayukta in the assets and liabilities declaration.

The matter has been posted to June 19.

The complainant Abdul Haq Surathi, a resident of Shivajinagar, said that he had earlier complained to the returning officer about the assets and not mentioning them in the affidavit filed by Baig.

He had also submitted a complaint to the office of the Lokayukta in February 2009. The complaint also names Roshan Baig’s wife Sabiha Roshan, son Ruman Baig Rehman, Danish Publications Private Limited, Ruman Enterprises Private Limited and Sabiha Apparels Private Limited as the accused.

The complaint states that there are discrepancies in the statements made to the Lokayukta, to the tune of Rs 100 crore.

The chief among the allegations made is the allotment of government land in December 2006 to his concern Suby Electronics by Keonics.

The declaration made to the Lokayukta put the sale amount at Rs 19.47 lakh, but in March 2010-11, the declaration says it was purchased at Rs 23.27 lakh.

Information obtained through RTI by the complainant showed that the sale consideration was made for Rs 38.11 lakh.

The complainant alleges that this out of turn allocation of land was clear proof of abuse of position for individual gain. While the land was obtained stating that Baig would be setting up a small scale industry, in reality he entered into an agreement with builders Prestige Estate Projects Private Limited, much before the sale agreement with Keonics.

That land was later developed into a building of one lakh square feet and rented to a multinational company for a rent of Rs 2.5 crore per annum.
