Mining cases transferred for personal gain: Lawyers

Last Updated 16 September 2009, 19:33 IST

In a memorandum submitted to Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, they said, “All mining matters were notified to be heard by this Green Bench. The entire batch of cases relating to mining were transferred from the Dharwad circuit bench to Bangalore to be heard by this Green Bench.”

“It is strongly believed that this was primarily done for the personal gain of the chief justice. Even if these cases do not have anything to do with environmental issues, they posted before the so-called Green Bench at Bangalore. Janardhana Reddy is a sitting MLA and the Tourism Minister and has extensive mining interests himself,’’ the petition said.
