Vehicle inspector lands in Lokayukta net for taking bribe

A senior motor vehicle inspector was trapped while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 through an accomplice in the City on Thursday.

D Manjunatha, working in the Regional Transport Office of KR Puram, had been badgering K R Manjunath, owner of a transport company, to give him money to allow the lorries ply from Kolar to Bangalore.

According to the complaint lodged by Manjunatha with the Bangalore Lokayukta police, inspector Manjunath demanded Rs 40,000 per month for letting 20 lorries ply from Kolar to Bangalore.

After the negotiations, he reduced the amount  to 15,000. Manjunath and his accomplice Parameshwara were arrested while accepting the bribe of
Rs 15,000.

Man kills mother

A mentally unstable man bludgeoned his mother to death in Lakshmidevinagar on Thursday morning,  Rajgopalnagar police said.

Anasuyamma, 58, was working as a domestic help. Her son Lakshmi Narayana, 38, was an auto driver till recently. He was an alcoholic and had lost his mental balance a year ago.

His wife had deserted him, taking their son along. Lakshmi Narayana was being treated at the Nimhans and had returned home four days ago.

He killed Anasuyamma on Wednesday night when she refused to give him money.

After committing the crime, he left for his sister’s house and brought her home.

She immediately rushed Anasuyamma to Nimhans, but died of injuries on Thursday morning.

Rajgopal Nagar police have arrested Lakshmi Narayana.

Fight ends in murder

A fight between two friends over a trivial issue ended in a murder at Hulimavu on Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as Kashinath, 24, a native of Bijapur. He and Parashuram,  also from the same village in Bijapur, were close friends. They were working as construction labourers at Hulimavu behind the Meenakshi temple.

Kashinath had borrowed some money from Parashuram. On Wednesday, an argument ensued between the two over repayment of  the loan and Kashinath slapped Parashuram. An enraged Parashuram hit Kashinath with a hammer on his head.

Kashinath died on the spot. Parashuram is absconding.

Illegal gas refilling

Sleuths from the CCB Cheating and Misuse Wing raided three gas-filling units - two in Hebbal and one in DJ Halli - on Wednesday afternoon and arrested nine people for indulging in illegal gas refilling.

The police seized gas cylinders worth Rs six lakh belonging to various companies.
