A six-year-old boy was killed when a delivery van in which he was travelling along with his relative turned turtle after a head-on collision with a speeding car at Dwarka in south west Delhi, police said on Thursday.

Kartik Singh was returning to his Rajapuri block C residence in Uttam Nagar with uncle Mahavir Singh, 54, when the incident took place around 5.45 am on Wednesday.

“Mahavir had taken Kartik’s father Ashok’s delivery van to a nearby CNG filling station. When they were going back home, a speeding Maruti Alto car coming from Dwarka sector 6 rammed into their vehicle head-on at Ashirwad Chowk near Dwarka sector 12,” a senior police official said.

The delivery van overturned on impact due to which both Kartik and Mahavir suffered injuries. But, Mahavir managed to take Kartik to nearby Ayushman Hospital with the help of locals.

“Doctors, however, declared the six-year-old as brought dead upon arrival, while Mahavir was discharged after a first aid,” the official added.
Mahavir told police that the car driver, who fled from the spot without the vehicle, was speeding and driving recklessly. A case has been registered at Dwarka South police station.

Motorcyclist killed

A separate incident was reported in Jaitpur in south-east Delhi, where a biker was killed after his vehicle was hit by a speeding mini-truck.

Dileep Kumar, 31, was a resident of Deepali Enclave in Faridabad. “He was passing through Agra Cenal Road near Meethapur Chowk when a mini-truck hit his motorcycle from behind,” another police official said.

He was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre but was declared brought dead. The driver is absconding.
