Low price for admission forms, lower response at counter

Despite reducing the price of the form available at the counters for the ongoing Delhi University admissions, anxious students and parents are not taking a chance and buying the Rs 100-form with prospectus.

For Rs 20, optical marks recognition forms are being sold after the various students’ union demanded to give students both options of forms with or without the prospectus to aspirants.

According to university officials, over 20,000 Rs 20-OMR forms have been sold and over two lakh Rs 100 forms from the counter till June 14.

DU admission process started on June 4.

“It is a mindset where students and parents think that expensive forms will have more information than the Rs 20 form. For admissions in DU, they don’t want to risk their wards’ admission by saving Rs 100. Prospectus is available for free on the DU website, still students are buying over the counter prospectus,” stated an official.

While some students said buying Rs 100 prospectus along with a form gives them a mental satisfaction of not missing out on anything, few stated that DU started selling Rs 20 forms two days after the admission started.

“The first few days of admission rush did not have the option of Rs 20 forms. Even when it started, students had a feeling for at least buying the first form with the prospectus and maybe later if they make any mistake in filling the form, they can buy Rs 20 OMR form,” said Vibhor Narang, aspirant.

According to a parent, the process of downloading the entire prospectus when one has come to buy over the counter form is not feasible.

“We came all the way from Dwarka. We have heard about the technical glitches in online form process and we don’t want to download the prospectus. Now that we have come here, we will buy both the form and the prospectus,” said Snigdha Sharma, mother of a ward.
