Postal employees convention held

Rural Postal Employees Union secretary Panduranga Rao said a platform was required for the members to discuss their problems and put them before the government.

Speaking after inaugurating a convention organised by All India Postal Employees Union (AIPEU) and Rural Postal Employees Union in Hassan on Sunday, he said it will also help in creating a bond between the employees.

Such conventions held at Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and other states has received good response. There are also discussions to hold such conventions in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, he said.

A demand for increase in medical allowance from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 and others will be put forth before the government, he said. An interaction was held to know about the problems of the employees.

Protest

Meanwhile, some members of AIPEU staged a protest wearing black bands, in front of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Bhavan, where the convention was held.
