Admissions get delayed at IP University

The counselling process for various undergraduate professional courses of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has been delayed as the higher education and technical educational department of the Delhi government are yet to give a no-objection certificate, allowing the university to allot seats for its various institutes.

The university comes under the Delhi government.

“A delay of one-and-a-half-months happened last year also and our BTech course was affected. Now, till the time we don’t know how many seats will be allotted for the courses, we can’t decide up to which rank students are to be called for the first counseling session,” said spokesperson, Nalini Ranjan.

According to university officials, delay in seat allotment will force students to take admissions in other universities. “All good rank-holders will go to other universities, some even outside Delhi. This is our loss,” added Ranjan.

Parents have been making rounds of the university but have been sent back with no concrete answers. “The counselling date was decided from June 15 for several courses. BTech counselling was scheduled from June 20,” said a worried parent. “But we are being asked to keep checking the website for updates. Now, we are looking for options outside Delhi, which means extra expense, such as hostel facility,” the parent said.

Every year a Joint Assessment Committee is formed, which submits its report on each of the university’s institutes relating to faculty, infrastructure and courses.
“Based on the report, officials at the higher education and technical departments decide the number of seats to be allotted in each institute.

We had already submitted our report before starting the admission process. In fact, we started the whole process a month early to avoid delay,” said a university official.

According to an official at the higher education department, the JAC report was submitted late. “We can give the NOC only after we get the JAC report, which came late, thus the delay,” said the official.
