JOIN USSappers sail into people's heart
The biennial show was attended by the Governor H R Bharadwaj and Major General Brajesh Kumar VSM, Colonel Commandant of the Madras Sappers.
The show consisted of boat races by Sapper sportsmen and tableaus on several topics including the Sappers from 1780 till date. Luckily rain was content to shed a few drops and did not mar the tableaus as other entries demonstrated the MEG body builders and tasks of the Sapper engineers.
Spectacular fireworks
Para motor sailors kept flying around the Ulsoor lake keeping the spectators well entertained. The evening was also witness to a spectacular display of fireworks over the lake.
The Madras Engineers Group was founded in 1780 essentially to undertake engineer ing operations of the army. The troops of MEG have played a major role in all the wars fought since then, both under the British and Indian flag. In 1977, the Madras Sappers Sailing Club was established at Ulsoor lake. The regatta races are held once every two years, with different categories like cutters, medley relay, kayaking and rowing races.
