Brilliant Nidhi clinches eventing gold

Last Updated 18 September 2009, 17:17 IST

Nidhi won the title — a combination of dressage, showjumping and cross country — with the lowest penalty of 65, well ahead of Japanese Daiko Cheujo, who scored 88 faults. “I was the only female competitor in eventing which involves high risk especially in cross country. I wasn’t expecting gold but I so was happy to beat the tough guys out there,” said Nidhi, who is training under Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medallist Stuart Tinney. Nidhi, who is doing her degree in Psychology at the University of Western Sydney, gave full credit to her gelding Ferragamo. The 21-year-old Nidhi, who took to equestrian aged 11, had won the CSI ‘Y’ showjumping two years ago for international riders held at the Embassy International Riding School in the City.

Meanwhile, Nadia Haridass of EIRS came up with a good performance to score 62.5 per cent in the team dressage event at the St George Prix. Veteran rider J S Ahluwalia registered a top class 65.7 per cent in individual dressage competition.
