Child labourers rescued

The Anti-human Trafficking Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) rescued 34 child labourers who were working at an industrial unit in Kannahalli near Sheegehalli Cross in Tavarekere police limits in Ramanagar district on Thursday. 

On a tip off, the officials raided Ballad Agro Industries and rescued the children, including 12 boys and 19 girls, all under 14 years of age.  

The unit, which is into processing of herbal products, had engaged children for work. It had around 200 employees and 34 among them were identified to be children, he added. 

The children will be subjected to a medical examination to ascertain their age. Contractor Jirad, who was picking child labourers from villages and Gopalakrishna Kamat, the HR Manager of the company, have been arrested.
