The three-day French Film Festival, Cinéma en Fête, saw the screening of some popular movies at the Suchitra Film Society.

The films included those by well-known directors like Cedric Kahn and David Foenkinos. The movie screened on the second day of the festival was called ‘A Better Life’ (Une Vie Meilleure), which was directed by director Cedric Kahn.

The story revolved around Yann, a cook; and Nadia, a waitress and mother of 9-
year-old child, and their decision to risk everything to buy a restaurant.

Though talented and ambitious, they lack finances and are forced to take bank loans.

They land up in financial strains, which overwhelm them. Nadia decides to take up a job in Canada to escape bankruptcy while Yann is forced to stay back and look after the restaurant.

While on one hand, Nadia is missing her husband and child, on the other Yann and his son are facing turbulent times with the creditors knocking at their doors.

Yann finally decides to reunite the mother and the child and moves to Canada for a better life.

“We have hand-picked some of the best movies and the three-day festival saw people from all over the City attending it. We received a great response from the people. We hope it was liked by Bangaloreans,” said Anuradha, the co-ordinator of the event.

The second movie, which as screened at the festival was La Delicatesse (Delicacy), which was an adaptation of David Foenkinos’ novel La Delicatesse. David directed this movie along with his brother Stephane.

The story begins on a very sombre note but later takes a turn towards unravelling the significance of a kiss.

Nathalie, played by Audry Tautou, is leading a happy married life in Paris when her husband dies.

She is devastated by this tragic loss and consequently tries to cut herself off emotionally and gets involved in work. However, one day, she kisses her colleague Markus, who is so unlike her husband.

The film is all about social disapproval and how Nathalie is so fickle in her decision regarding Markus, who is madly in love with her.

“The festival was very well organised and I really liked the movies that were showcased.

Some movies, which we could have never watched on our own, were shown in the festival. It was a good opportunity for the movie lovers in the City,” said Ashish, who attended the film festival.
