It is suspected that the exact number of cases may far exceed the official figures. Supply of contaminated water is being cited as the major reason for the outbreak of epidemics in the taluk. The pipes supplying water are laid through drainages. Owing to breakage of such pipes, the drainage water is entering the supply line thus contaminating the potable water being supplied to pubic. It is reported that the water being supplied to General Hospital in the town has been found to be unfit for consumption. The number of patients may go up further if the local authorities do not initiate measures according priority for maintaining sanitation, it is warned.
