Stray leopard captured in Odisha town

A team of experts from the Nandankanan zoological park and zoo near here managed to capture a leopard on Thursday night, ending 24 hours of drama at a western Odisha town.

The leopard, which strayed into Sonepur in Subarnapur district and hopped into a fancy stores in the town’s busy market area, was caught with the help of local forest department officials as well as the police.

The leopard which was kept in a cage in the district Collector’s office on Friday will be shifted to the Bhubaneswar zoo soon.

On Wednesday evening, people in the bada bazar area of the town were shocked to spot a leopard prancing around the market place. As they raised an alarm, the panicky animal ran into a shop that fortunately had no customers inside.

The owner who was standing outside when the animal entered, pulled the shutters down quickly to keep the animal trapped.Finally,  the authorities of the Nandankanan zoo  managed to catch the leopard.
