On the road to perfection

Dream destination

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) always walks the extra mile to ensure that the freshers feel at home.

The warmth and the sense of belonging were evident barely two weeks after the college opened. That there’s no substitute for hard work is what the seniors drilled into their juniors right from day one. Metrolife interacted with a few freshers and asked them why they chose NLS and if they were all set for the competitive atmosphere.

Most students, boys and girls alike, say that they’re proud to be able to study at this law school. They say it has been a dream come true for them.

More than the faculty of the NLSIU, it is the students who acquaint the freshers with their new surroundings. The in-house hostel is just perfect for the students to get to know their seniors. Sushmit Paul, the president of the students’ union at the law school says, “Each fresher is guided by parents — not by their own parents but by the students who double up as their ‘rank parents’, ‘roll parents’ and ‘cubicle moms’. Rank parents are those who secure the same rank as the freshers, roll parents are those who share the same roll number and cubical moms are those who share the same room space,” says Sushmit. He adds, “This helps the freshers settle in faster.”

Pallavi Panigrahi hails from a small town in Cuttack. Pallavi was inspired to pursue law because her great grandfather was a lawyer. “My great grandfather was a reputed lawyer and that was how I was initiated into the world of law. I always wanted to do something that complemented my interest in reading, writing and debating, and law seemed to be the perfect choice. After class ten, I started preparing for CLAT for the National Law School and I got selected to the dream destination of every law aspirant,” says Pallavi. She adds that she chose NLS for its impeccable reputation at promoting excellence in the field of legal education and the illustrious network of alumni.

“The day of my admission was a defining moment for me. The pristine campus and an undercurrent of enthusiasm and brilliance dispelled my fears and doubts. The first few days at NLSIU have been very hectic and overwhelming. I have realised that the next five years here are going to be a life-changing experience. However, the thought of a bright and promising future with boundless possibilities makes it worth the effort,” says Pallavi. Shivani Mittal, another first-year student too attributes her interest in law to her grandfather. Shivani reasons, “I was always fascinated with the advocate written under my grandfather’s name. Debates, declamations and extempores helped me discover my passion for public speaking and my teachers reinforced that time and again.”

She’s thrilled about being able to study at NLS. “Bagging this seat was certainly beyond expectations. The signature NLSIU tower invoked inexplicable emotions,” she adds.   Anhad Miglani from Chandigarh sums up, “It has been a dream come true for me to have got into this prestigious institution. I am looking forward to a new life experience, an opportunity to broaden my horizons, develop a new perspective towards things and having fun on my way to becoming a popular lawyer.”
