APMC president M Erappa said on Sunday that officials were hindering the land acquisition process aimed at expanding the APMC yard on the outskirts of the city.

Addressing a press conference at the APMC auditorium, Erappa said that the APMC was currently spread over 18 acres, and an appeal had been made seeking an additional 29 acres which belongs to the Kondarajanahalli Gram Panchayat.

No action

Erappa claimed that officials are pushing farmers to oppose the acquisition. He also said that the APMC had appealed to the deputy commissioner to take steps to provide land for the APMC, but that nothing has been done.

The president said APMC was ready to pay for the land if it was given to them soon. He also alleged they were facing threats from government officials.

According to Erappa, a record cess of Rs 1.09 crore had been collected in 2011-12 by the APMC.

But even as he listed out development works in the APMC, Secretary Holali Prakash said corruption can be curbed only upto 90 per cent.
