The High Court on Monday lashed out at the City police for furnishing false information in Mahantesh’s case.

Mahantesh, a KAS officer, was allegedly killed by Sahakarnagar Co-operative Society clerk and his associates in the City, recently.

During the hearing of a plea seeking directions to prevent television channels from telecasting information relating to the case, as the matter is sub judice, the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B V Nagarathna took the City police to task for not following the court directions even after they had filed an affidavit that no information would be provided to the media.

During the hearing the Chief Justice wanted to know which officer gave an interview, even as the investigation was in progress. To this, the State government counsel submitted that it was not an interview but just a presentation of fact.

However, the court refused to buy the submission and said: “How is that you can go to the extent of saying that he had an affair?” The Bench later directed the State to file an affidavit within a week and clarify its stand.
