<p>Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Wednesday sacked Swami Prasad Maurya as the party’s Uttar Pradesh chief and appointed former minister Ram Achal Rajbhar in his place.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Maurya, however, will continue to be the head of the BSP legislature party. He is also the leader of opposition in the state Assembly.<br /><br />Mayawati announced this in a meeting of party MLAs and MPs. According to sources, the decision is aimed at wooing the powerful rajbhar community in the forthcoming general elections.<br /><br />The community had not supported the BSP in the recently concluded Assembly polls. As a result several party nominees lost elections. Even Ram Achal’s wife had been humbled at the polls.<br /><br />The new state president was recently charged with assaulting his political rivals in Ambedkar Nagar district. <br /><br />An FIR had been registered against six persons, including Rajbhar, charging them with attempt to murder, unlawful assembly and assault.<br /></p>
