Flaunting it all

NEW MODELS
Last Updated 15 May 2009, 14:09 IST

Minutes before the big show where the new line of models strutted their stuff, Metrolife went backstage and spoke to the newbies to gauge their level of excitement and anxiety. We interacted with the boys and the girls selected from across the country, some of whom were from as far as Kashmir. They did show the nerves of hitting the ramp in a few moments. But their determination and confidence too were much evident.
Pallavi Singh, who has just finished a show at the Wills Lifestyle Fashion week, says loads of patience is what one needs. “It just doesn’t pay to have good skin, great body and lovely hair, your attitude matters and you have to love yourself,” she explains.
Twenty-one-year-old Reenu Vijayakumar’s mantra is that even if you have the prettiest face, you will look like you are in rags if you lack the confidence. Flaunt it all, that’s the way to go for Reenu.
In addition to passion, 19-year-old Bhanu Gandham observes a healthy lifestyle is one of the basic things that a model has to watch out for. Drugs and alcohol are just a big No.
Half Indian and half German Renee is as hot as the combination can get. Her holiday in Bangalore got her onto the Bidapa launch pad. She observes that Indian models are so much more dressed compared with those in the West. While she says models are considered hot and sexy back in her country, here in India they’re more warm and friendly. She says being part of the show and being one among the chosen few has given her a kick.
Little did Reju Joseph, athlete from Ernakulam in Kerala think he’d be here in Bangalore walking the ramp for Prasad. Kerala’s calender boy was thrilled that he has made it to Bangalore’s hottest ramp. “I don’t know the nuances of modelling but thought I’d give it a shot.”
Twenty-five-year-old Kashmiri Umeed Syed has finished his MBBS. This doc confesses that modelling was the last thing on his mind. “I have no clue what modelling is all about. But I always wanted to taste everything,” he says.
