Diabetes Foundation launches Project CODE

The project aims to reach out to over 18 million people across 14 districts in the State to provide holistic diabetes care. The project, which will run till May 2012, seeks to create awareness about diabetes, prevention of complications and upgradation of healthcare infrastructure and skills of healthcare providers.

The project will cover 14 districts of the State - Mysore, Chamarajnagar, Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Shimoga, Uttar Kannada, Haveri, Koppal, Raichur, Bellary, Davangere, Chitradurga and Gadag. A total of 68 locations will act as screening and primary healthcare centres with the local government hospitals functioning as the focal point.

The project will provide subsidised lab services along with training and standardisation of the treatment to the local population. The programme which is being implemented in association with Vittala International Institute of Ophthalmology (VIIO) will involve government hospitals and staff from local governance institutions. The project has been funded by the World Diabetes Foundation.
