As a part of ‘Shalegagi navu neevu’ state- level programme, valuation of schools is going on in Dakshina Kannada district. The programme, said to be first of its kind in the history of school education in the State covers all government, aided and unaided schools, and started on July 6, will continue till July 31.

As per the programme, teams of 3 to 6 members would evaluate all 932 primary and 160 high schools. The process aims at understanding the needs of schools. Team members inspect the activeness of School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMC), facilities in schools, creativities of various clubs in school and other facts.

There are 47 teams to valuate the primary schools and 8 teams for high schools.  The first six rounds, which means one- third of the valuation is already over and whole process will be completed by August 31. The second round of the valuation will be conducted from August to January.

District Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana Project Co-ordinator Shivaprakash said that the process helps to identify the problems of the schools as they can get feedback from public. “As per the directions, we have to cover at least 10 per cent of the schools in second round, but we are planning to inspect all schools once again in second round,” he said.

Health card project

Meanwhile, ‘Suvarna Aarogya Chaithanya Card’ project, another State-level project for the good health of students is all set to get launched in Dakshina Kannada from August 1. According to sources, the students from first to tenth standard will get Suvarna Aarogya Chaithanya Cards on or before August 31.

This health card is valid even in other cities of the State including Bangalore. With the help of these cards, major treatment including heart surgery can be done free of cost for the students.

Speaking to Deccan Herald about providing first-aid kits to schools, Shivaprakash said that every school will be provided with medical funds. “They can use it for medical purpose. We have planes to provide training for the teachers about the proper use of kits during the school visit of doctors for health check-up,” he added.
