ULFA protest against molestations

Last Updated 16 July 2012, 13:13 IST

The ULFA anti-talk faction today urged the people of Assam to continue with their protests against the recent twin molestations of a girl in Guwahati by anti-social elements and another in Sibsagar by an army personnel.

"There is no language to condemn the incident. A handful of people, not fit to be called humans, have forced the people of Assam to hang their head in shame before the entire world," a release issued by its Publicity Secretary Arunodoy 'Asom' said.

"We were not only proud of the status of women in the Assamese society but also of the fact that social ills like dowry was absent from our society," he added.

The question now arises "who is responsible for the moral degradation of Assamese society. We firmly believe that it is mainly due to the degeneration of political, social and economic fabric of the state", 'Asom' said.

"This degeneration in turn has led to the loss of ethos and values which had earlier characterised the Assamese society and any amount of cover-up will not restore the lost status of women in the state," he added.

The ULFA leader said they did not have faith in any government enquiry or judicial enquiry as during the past, too, such incidents have taken place and enquiry commissions have been set up with no results.

He urged the people of the state not to remain silent but continue with their protests till all the culprits were brought to book.
