To oppose the State Government’s move to introduce English medium in government schools from Class 6 and also to demand a uniform education policy, the Karnataka Sahitya Parishat has planned to stage a State-wide protest on July 21.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President T P Ramesh said that protest will be held in all the district and taluk headquarters. The decision on the protest was taken at a meeting in Bangalore. The protest will be held in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office and Tahsildar office from 10.30 am to 12 noon.

He said “English should be taught as one subject from first standard. If the medium of instruction is changed from sixth standard, then it would be affect the child to understand the concept. We do not have any objection to introduce English as a subject from first standard. Kannadigas can learn any language. But there is a need to protect mother tongue.”

The government should suspend its order to start English as a medium of instruction from class six in 341 government primary schools.

The government should provide employment security to those who have completed their studies in Kannada medium. Sarojini Mahishi report should be extended to private sector. Kannada medium in higher education should be encouraged.

About 80 per cent of the job should be reserved for those who have studied in Kannada medium schools. All the private schools which exhibit anti Kannada policies should be nationalised.

Madikeri taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat President S I Muneer Ahammed, and others were present.
